Currently, 367 companies conduct their own R&D, and CEITEC has attracted 26 of them to the CEIPEX project as formal associated partners. Many more will likely emerge in the course of the project as the research topics become clearer. At this point, the cooperation is incredibly intensive in electron microscopy, with 35% of the world’s production located in Brno (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Tescan, and Delong Instruments). Next to those EM powerhouses, two microscopy spin-offs emerged from research at CEITEC BUT – Telight and Nenovision – and consolidated into innovative microscopy start-up companies. Similarly, in the area of material science research, CEITEC has been spinning off companies (X-Sight, ActiveAir, Lightigo, and Cactux) as well as cooperating with established players (ONSEMI, G.L.Electronics). The fundamental research of CEITEC plant and veterinary groups is increasingly of interest to the local companies developing technologies for sustainable agriculture (PSI, Future Farming, Agricultural Research s.r.o., Bioveta and Natural). The biotech sector is still developing in Brno. However, most of the companies present either originated from or have strong ties to the academic research at CEITEC (Biovendor, Enantis, IQSNano, and CasInvent). Another excellent example of academia-industry synergy powered by CEITEC and its NANO facility is the development of advanced electrical intervention apparatuses to treat neurological conditions (e.g. Stimvia). CEITEC’s data intensive tasks are increasingly tackled through cooperation with IT companies in the region (AppsDevTeam, Y-Soft and InternetBillboard). The intersectoral cooperation is coordinated and supported by the South Moravian Innovation Center (JIC).
